Optimal control of a crop irrigation model under water scarcity

نویسندگان

چکیده

We consider a simple crop irrigation model and study the optimal control which consists of maximizing the biomass production at harvesting time. A specificity this work is to impose quota on water used for irrigation, in context limited resources. The written as 2d non-autonomous dynamical system with state constraint, non-smooth right member given by threshold-based soil stress functions. show that when below threshold giving largest possible production, the strategy irrigating once. then solution can have one or several singular arcs, therefore be better than bang-bang controls, commonly used. gains over the best controls are illustrated numerical simulations. These new feedback we obtain are promising first step towards concrete application theory problem irrigation scheduling under scarcity.

A modified optimal stomatal conductance model under water-stressed condition

Accurate estimation of leaf stomatal conductance (gs) is important in predicting carbon andwater cycles of terrestrial ecosystem. To estimate gs on field-grown soybean and maize underwater-stressed condition accurately, a modified optimal stomatal conductance (OSCM) modelwas established based on the relationship between marginal water cost of carbon gain and soilwater content by introducing a w...

Crop Water Use Responses of Upland Rice to Differential Water Distribution under Sprinkler Irrigation System

A two-year dry season experiment was conducted at the research farm of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA Ibadan, Nigeria to estimate irrigation water requirements and establish crop water use. Two upland rice varieties (NERICA 2 and NERICA 4) were planted in a randomized complete block design (RCBD). Four treatments based on different water distribution levels were adopt...

A Decision Support System for Optimal Use of Irrigation Water and Crop Selection

We propose a Decision Support System (DSS) for optimal cropping patterns and irrigation water management. The development of the DSS has three objectives. The first is to use mathematical models in order to optimize cropping decisions and irrigation policies under shortage of water in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The second is to help growers exploit optimally their lands in places suffering fr...

A global water scarcity assessment under Shared Socio-economic Pathways – Part 2: Water availability and scarcity

A global water scarcity assessment for the 21st century was conducted under the latest socio-economic scenario for global change studies, namely Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs). SSPs depict five global situations with substantially different socio-economic conditions. In the accompanying paper, a water use scenario compatible with the SSPs was developed. This scenario considers not only qu...

A Joint Model for Water Scarcity Evaluation

To make a real difference for our thirsty planet, we establish the water demand-supply model and the Advanced Water Poverty Index (AWPI). First, we develop a dynamic demand-supply model to measure the ability of a region to satisfy its water consumption. On the demand side, we fit agricultural and industrial water needs by the Grey Verhulst prediction model, then we consider domestic needs thro...
